Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. McCane

The Teacher Spotlight is a new series of articles by The Rebellious Times highlighting the unique actions or personality of some of our favorite teachers. Each week, our class picks teachers that they believe best fit the requirements of A Teacher Spotlight.

Mrs. McCane is a high school teacher here at southwestern. She teaches Algebra 2, Honors Geometry and Algebra 1. She’s been teaching here at Southwestern for 13 years and has taught for 20 years total. When she first graduated from college, she taught 1 year at Shawe. Then she worked at the Division of Family and Children for about 10 years before, then she renewed her teaching license and taught at South Ripley for 6 years before coming to Southwestern.

What do you like about teaching?

I enjoy working with students and helping them be successful

What are five adjectives that describe you?

kind, patient, dedicated, optimistic, thoughtful

What are some of your hobbies?

I like to read, go to the movies and participate in 5k, 10k, 15k and half marathons events.

What made you want to become a teacher?

My high school math teacher was brilliant and I wanted to help students succeed.
