Twins Born in Different Years, Days, and Decades

What is the likelihood of twins being born on different days, years, and decades? Well, this is what happened to a pair of Indiana twins. Joslyn Grace Guillen Tello came first on Tuesday, December 31, at 11:37 p.m. at Ascension St. Vincent Carmel Hospital. Around thirty minutes later, her brother Jaxon DeWayne Mills Tello was born at 12:07 a.m. seven minutes into 2020.  According to a local news outlet, Joslyn weighed 4 pounds 11 ounces, and Jaxon weighed 4 pounds 4 ounces. Joslyn and Jaxon were born seven weeks premature.

Jason Tello, the father of the twins, later told news reporters: “We talked about how it would be great to have them born on different dates, but here we are with this surprise: different dates [and] different years.” Dawn Gilliam, the mother of the twins, was just as surprised. She made an unplanned trip to the hospital due to a lack of fetal movement. The doctors had told Dawn that she might have to deliver. Sure enough, she did.

Dawn said she pictures future New Years’ Eve celebrations as small family gatherings. She will continue to be a stay-at-home mom with the twins and the couples’ two other children. The twins and mother are doing well. (Jorge Fitz-Gibbon).
