Rise of the Skywalker

Rise+of+the+Skywalker

I just went to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker last weekend. I came out of the movie theater hyped but not really sure how I felt about the skywalker saga coming to an end. It saddens me to know that this is the last movie in the Skywalker saga and the end of Anakin’s, Luke’s and Rey’s story. Now by no means am I a Star Wars mega fan who keeps up with all the lore of the Star Wars universe. So by no means do I see the movie the same compared to somebody who completely understands how the universe works. This review will have spoilers included, so if you have not seen the movie and care about spoilers, don’t continue reading.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s plot is that Emperor Palpatine survived the 2nd deathstars explosion and is returning to form a new order. The resistance now has to race to stop Emperor Palpatine but the heroes have one problem. The Emperor is hiding on a hidden sith planet called Exogol. The only way to find this planet is to use a sith wayfinder.  Only 2 of these exist with Kylo Ren owning one. This forms a problems for the resistance and leads to Rey, Finn, Poe and other members of the resistance to need to track one down. This takes them to different planets around the galaxy, chasing the trail of the sith wayfinder and the hope of stopping Emperor Palpatine and his last order.

The last Star Wars was exciting but I’m not sure if it reached the climactic highs it should have for the last of the Skywalker Saga. The movie plot felt like it was rushed and not really thought through. Some things don’t really make sense. There was a lot of potential with Rey and her fighting the dark side but it’s never really developed. I don’t like this because it really could have a cool effect on the story and the ending. Another time something like this happens, as the heroes are about to die, Finn tells Rey that he has something to tell her. This is never brought up again in the movie. This shouldn’t even be in the movie if it is never gonna be brought up again. The movie definitely did not reach its full potential but there are still some pros that I think need to be mentioned. The movie has great special effects, interesting moments in the movie, compelling fighting scenes, and lightsaber fights are choreographed very well. They even balance the force and lightsabers clashing in a way that looks graceful and iconic. The movie also brings back some old iconic characters such Lando, Calrissian, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker and a great tribute to Carrie Fisher. They did a great job with the CGI for Carrie Fisher and really looked life-like. Given these points, the movie for me is a 7/10. Although, the movie has some glaring plot holes that really dampered my experience, I still think it has some saving graces.
