Weekly Baseball Recap, April 19-23, 2021

The Southwestern Rebels varsity baseball team came into this week with a record of 6-1. According to PBR Indiana baseball rankings, they climbed to #10 in 2A schools ranking. Monday they had to face their conference rivals, South Ripley (3-1), who at the time was the #7 ranked team in 2A. The Rebels fought to the end and ended up winning 6 to 4. Jordan DeAtley was the starting pitcher and pitched the entire game. He ended up with 14 strikeouts, 5 walks, and only allowed 5 hits. Zach Cole led off the game with a solo home run on the second pitch of the game. Foster Mefford, Zach Cole, and Ethan Stewart each scored twice to lead the team to their third win in the ORVC and seventh win overall.

On Tuesday the team traveled to New Washington to play their second game of the week. After one inning the score was 0-0 by the second inning the Rebels bats heated. They got up 8 to 0 and scored a few more runs the next inning. Landon DeAtley struck out 4 and held them to only 2 runs in five innings. The Rebels ended up ruling New Washington in the 5th inning with a score of 14-2. This would take them to an 8-1 record.

On Thursday the team traveled to Milan for their second conference game of the week. Zach Cole was the starting pitcher and ended up pitching all 7 innings. After a hard battle into the seventh inning, Milan won 5-4 on a walk-off hit. The Rebels had a lot of opportunities to score but came up short, they left 10 runners on base. What really lost the game for the Rebels was their defense. They ended up with 2 errors which led to Milan’s third conference win. Southwestern is now 3-1 and Milan is 3-2 in the ORVC.
