Long white beaches, the blue ocean, and sunshine around the year. Greece is one of the most popular destinations in Europe. Greece, officially the Hellenic Republic and also known as Hellas, is a country in Southeast Europe. Greece is around the same size as the US state Florida.

Athens is nowadays the capital of Greece and was the heart of Ancient Greece, an empire that started around 800 BC. As the biggest City is Athens hotspot for economic, financial, industrial, maritime, political, and cultural life in Greece. There are still a lot of monuments and works of art from the ancient Greeks. The most famous one is the Parthenon located in the Acropolis of Athens, an ancient citadel on a rocky outcrop above the city. Other important cities are Thessaloniki, Patras, and Piraeus.

Greek mythology is still part of Greek society today. You can find ancient monuments and supposed remains of this time. Greek mythology is basically a set of stories about the beginning of the world and adventures of the Greek gods, goddesses, and heroes. There are 12 main gods known as the Twelve Olympians. They lived on top of the mountain Olympus. The king of the gods was Zeus, the God of the Sky. His brothers, Poseidon, the God of the Sea, and Hades, the God of the Dead, and him were children of the Titans Kronos and Rhea. They ruled before but were brought down by their children. Famous Hercules and Odysseus are just two of many hero stories.

Mykonos is one of 6,000 islands, of which only 227 are inhabited. The island is said to be the location of the great battle between Zeus and the Titans, and also where Hercules killed the invincible giants. According to the myth, the large rocks all over the island are the petrifies testicles of the giants. The man attractions are long beaches, with the clearest water I’ve ever seen and is one of the prettiest Greek islands. Other famous islands are Crete, Kos, and Santorini.
